Progress is a tricky word because people define it differently. I think of the progress in my neighborhood, and it brings to mind torn-up streets and sidewalks. They were demolished to install fiber so we can have faster Internet at home. When I drive past the construction zone at the bottom of my hill, I see that the Denny’s Restaurant has been demolished; its parking lot has been torn up and is used to stash equipment, big rigs, and lights. The construction is progress because we’re getting new toll lanes added to I-405 to get to work faster, but we’ll have to pay. Gone are the wetlands that used to be there, and they were home to beavers, red-wing blackbirds, and waterfowl. Is this progress?
