The number one food that reminds me of summer is WATERMELON! I know that’s not an original answer, but when I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, we ate seasonal foods, so it wasn’t possible to find summer foods like watermelon or grapes in the winter months. Maybe that makes them seem more special. I remember cooling large watermelons in a little dugout pool next to the “crick” that ran through our property before a family cookout one year. I remember biting into the crisp red fruit, careful to collect its black seeds in my cheek so I could spit them at my brothers and cousins. Juice would drip down my chin, slide down my fingertips, and drop off my elbows. We’d be sticky and dirty and play outside all day. I have such fond memories of watermelon!
